*A beautiful cybernetic SpecOps agent, an immortal mercenary, and a telepathic cat.*
Commander Kimber FitzWarren is running on borrowed time. The cybernetic augmentations that give her superhuman strength and speed have also shortened her life. The success of her next mission is imperative, not only to save her Empire, but because this operation could be her last.
She joins a group of idealistic officers plotting to topple the corrupt Imperial government, but the only key to placing missing military legend Arianne Ransahov on the throne lies with the one man who knows how to locate her, mercenary Wolf Youngblood.
Wolf has recently survived one Imperial assassination attempt, so when Fitz shows up in his bedroom at 0-dark-30, he’s reluctant to trust her, until another assassin tries to kill them both.
Pursued by Imperial warships, swarmed by mind-sucking parasites, and attacked by giant alien bugs, they’re left with no one to depend on but each other...and Wolf's wise-cracking telepathic cat, Jumper. A bond grows between the pair, one so strong even their secrets can't destroy it, but before Fitz and Wolf can explore what's left of their future together, they first have to survive this mission.

Wow, what a roller coaster ride this story is! And I loved every minute of it. The unrelenting action hardly left time for the characters and this reader alike to take a few breaths between edge-of-your-seat, OMG-they're-not-gonna-make-it situations. I found this really refreshing because quite often, it seems like characters manage to extricate themselves from tough situations in not-so-realistic or too-convenient ways, which tends to truncate an otherwise great story. This story is the best kind of space opera for me, with strongly developed main and secondary characters and some truly beastly villains, both human and alien. And the hero and heroine aren't perfect - thank goodness for that! I loved the evocative but not-overly-detailed world building and the not-too-complicated political machinations. The initial sex-for-fun and later romance were certainly there too, but I didn't think these elements were an awkward intrusion or unduly interrupted the flow of the action.
As a fan of cyborgs through and through in science fiction romance, I thought the "augies" were a pleasing combination of flawed-but-awesome, multi-dimensional and vulnerable. I really enjoyed reading about their background and ongoing, challenging struggles, including a balanced measure of success and failure. There's more than meets the eye with them, too, as the story progresses, making for further exciting good versus evil adventures with engaging characters in future books to look forward to.
And...then there were the CATS! Telepathic cats! We first meet Jumper and later Faydra. Jumper is the feline hero of the moment mostly on his own this time, so I can only imagine what the two of them can do together! I can't wait to find out.
A purrfect 5-paw...er...star book for this SFR and cat lover!

A Hero For The Empire The Dragon Bidding Book 1 eBook Christina Westcott Reviews
Great story, great characters, excellent writing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm really hoping the next has some of the same characters.
This book had great characters, plenty of action, vile villains, and an outstanding story. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the next installment.
I am hoping this is the first book to explore this version of the universe, both because I enjoyed it and second because there is a lot of room to fill in details. More characters and more universe building are needed to make this work even better. But I do recommend!
If you liked Guardians of the Galaxy or The Edge of Tomorrow, you'll LOVE A Hero for the Empire. It's an action-packed space opera thrill ride. The butt-kicking heroine is on a mission to save the empire -- and she won't take no for an answer. Her fighting spirit and badassery are equally matched by the hero, and they make for an awesome couple.
I couldn't put this one down. I loved watching the two of them fall in love amidst the chaos of the mission and the mounting tension in the empire.
Can't wait to read the sequel!
A really, really good story. Four stars because I think it went on too long (I think the book would be better with some large scenes from the shipyard cut out, to be honest). Lots of great moments of suspense, action and romance. Ms Westcott looks to be a newer author and, for somebody unestablished her writing is excellent. I eagerly anticipate what she is going to write next.
The book description says it all "a telepathic cat, an immortal mercenary and a cybernetically augmented Imperial SpecOps agent.
I really enjoyed this book.Great action, interesting characters and some romance. What's not to like? Fritz is cybernetically augmented and many people don't like her type. She has an expiration date because of the augmentation. She links up with Wolf who has some secrets of his own. This book moves along quickly and I'm ready for the next.
I love action-filled sci-fi romance, and A Hero for the Empire has it all. Totally kick ass Special Ops agent with cybernetic augmentations, Kimber FitzWarren is on a mission to save the Empire, and because of those augmentations, she’s not expecting to live much longer. Wolf Youngblood is the mercenary that is the key to her mission success, since he can help her find the legendary Ari Ransahov and convince her to take the throne to replace the corrupt Emperor. What follows is a wild ride with attacks by mind-sucking parasites, giant killer bugs, assassins, and Imperial warships. As Wolf and Fitz are learning to trust one another, they’re assisted along the way by Wolf’s empathic and telepathic cat Jumper and Fitz’s ship Lizzy. This was one of those books that I didn’t want to put down, but then I’m sorry when I reached the end, although the ending was utterly fantastic. Luckily, waiting on my is the next book in the series, Cypher, ready to take me on another adventure.
